Oye Mi Canto

Geddem, it's been a long while since I've posted!  A lot has happened since December.  The Jayhawk and I went to Costa Rica with the Chimneys to celebrate the nuptials of Dags and Mary Rice.  We went to KC to visit the Jayhawk's familia for his birthday (where he ended up getting the suede Prada boots that I'd scoped at Halls -- I'm not still bitter about that...no...).  I sang drunky karaoke Madonna (Like a Prayer) and Tina (Proud Mary) at La Linterna Verde (que te quiero verde) with Lady LaLa and the Boyz.  We saw Klingon Shakespeare auditions.  We bid au revoir to Fruchey, who's off in Austin for bigger and better things (and by "things" I think we all know I mean pipis...oh!; that was out loud).  We did pop-up dinner for Chez Billy at the Montserrat House.  I watched the 3rd Underworld movie with Puff and Candy -- and loved it (?!).  We mourned Don Cornelius and had our own drunky Soul Train revivals in our living room late nite.  We celenebriated Mattie's big move to the farm and danced to Whitney.  All in all, a ton of times over the past few months.  And tonight I finally released the latest Mango Mix for my friends to enjoy.  No Snow for Mango.  And the tracklist is:

Azari & III - Reckless (With Your Love)
Unknown Mortal Orchestra - How Can You Love Me
Howard Hughes & David Tattersall - The Lobster Boat
Grinderman - Worm Tamer
A Giant Dog - Chatterteeth
Caitlin Park - Baby Teeth
Sharon Van Etten - Serpents
Alabama Shakes - Hold On
Jamie Woon - Street
Fránçois & The Atlas Mountains - Piscine
Hanne Hukkelberg - Featherbrain
Husky - The Woods
Kikuyu - Infodome
La Garçonne - Super Hero
Sisterland - Dirty White
Electricity in Our Homes - As Fast as Lightning
Beth Jeans Houghton & The Hooves of Destiny - Sweet Tooth Bird
Grimes - Genesis
Anna Calvi - Blackout
Cate Le Bon - Falcon Eyed
Shrag - Tendons in the Night
Clubfeet - Teenage Suicide (Don't Do It)

And the link to these fine tunes is:  Error 404.  No music found.

I'll write more from now on, for realz, to keep y'all more informed on our comings/goings, mis bonitos.  I like writing for you.  I hope you like my writing, too.

And There Was a "Hollah, Girl" Heard Across the Land

Last night's Academy Award were meh except for 2 moments. I did get teary-eyed when Penélope Cruz broke out el castellano and dedicated her Best Supporting Actress award to her Spanish peoples. And I jumped up and whoot-whooted uncontrollably when Sean Penn won for Best Actor. You could definitely feel all of gay DC rejoicing. And for good reason because Milk was a fantastic movie that even made this hardened Rican shed a few tears. I guess now I have to see Slumdog so I can get what all the feel-good hype has been about. For those who know me, though, feel-good movies aren't necessarily my cup of tea. But I might make an exception this time.

Oh, yeah, and Mr. Penn's kill-him-with-kindness jab at Mickey Rourke was priceless.* "My brother," my arse. Klassy good times.

(*Explanation on why it was a jab here.)

Pretty Pictures Version 02.22.09

Staying up until 3ayem watching Karl Lagerfeld talk too fast in French about his German mother and living the Chanel lifestyle while holding onto his childhood pillow for dear life to keep his tummy from getting upset had me awake last night but has me quite sleepy today. Today's Pretty Pictures describe my current state perfectly, then: School of Seven Bells with "Half Asleep."

Gimme Gimme #12

Since Gossip Girl isn't back on until next month, I'm thinking of watching some movies to occupy my time while the Jayhawk's slaving away making other peoples' dining experiences pleasurable. And nothing warms me up better on cold winter nights than flicks with the hottness of Penélope Cruz. I've already got Volver and Abre los ojos, but I'd love love love to have Todo sobre mi madre and La niña de tus ojos. That second one is sooper hard to find, so I'd love love love it (and anyone who finds it) even more. But don't hurt yourselves trying to get it. Nothing's worth that. Not even bargain handbags at Saks. Ooph. Even shopping at Marshall's sounds better.

Then, again, I could always drink to keep the cold away. Or watch movie involving the drink! Or watch Penélope Cruz movies while hitting the drink! Yeah, that sounds about just right.

Pretty Pictures Version 11.20.08

Robert Pattinson won the title of sexiest male movie blood-sucker for a movie that hasn't even debuted yet? Who the feck is this guy, anyway? Talk about voting fraud. Today's Pretty Pictures are my protest song against the rigged voting and what looks by all accounts to be a horrible movie that will make millions regardless: Everything Everything's "Suffragette Suffragette."
