Smile with Your Thumbs

Just in time for the 25th birthday of the cell phone, this one's for the text happy (you know who you be): Super interesting article in the New Yorker today on texting and its questionable effects on the evolution of language around the world. I personally hate texting but definitely admit that it comes in handy when you don't want to actually speak with someone on the phone. Dayum...I just gave myself away.

Good story. And, I agree with you, 100%. I think law school does that to folks. Texting (and emailing for that matter) attacks the very core of wordsmithing.

Why say something with 100 words when you can say it with 10 characters? The answer: Because you will be misunderstood. Accuracy and thoroughness has been overtaken by brevity and speed.

Texting has its place - and I'm fine with that. So long as it knows its place.

Good thing most phones have cameras now...because we all know what a picture is worth.
